IN CHARACTER
Name: Mettaton (MTT for short)
Canon: Undertale
Canon Point: Post-True Pacifist
Age: He is a robot and thus has no age. It also isn't stated in-game.

History: Mettaton’s Wiki page!

Personality: Mettaton is a giant robot showboat and everyone in the Underground loved him for it.

But before he was that showboat, Mettaton was a ghost with dreams of stardom and corporeal form. His ambitions were clear even then, because despite his modest beginnings as a snail-farmer and his attachment to his cousin Napstablook, Mettaton had dreams of performing for an audience. In his old room, he had a poster of two humans dancing, which lends to the idea that he was inspired by human culture, even idolizes it. His mechanical body even appears more human than most monsters.

Mettaton’s ambition led him to become an excellent entertainer despite his (initially) limited form as a rectangular robotic unit. He’d always had a very flamboyant way of talking, and for his job as the sole celebrity in the Underground it was pretty entertaining. His speech patterns are also well-suited to being a tv show host, a news anchor, the lead of a play, and a cooking show host, all things which he has done at one point or another. Specifically, he speaks very emphatically, with constant enthusiasm. It’s just his nature to be very expressive. This also lends to his acting skill, which is also excellent. He hardly ever breaks character, and, for example, leads his human “guest star” through the motions very well, never showing that anything is amiss and that he is not actually a killer robot until several skits down, where he begins to tire of Dr. Alphys’ ploy.

His eventual abandonment of his role as a killer robot outlines another important trait of his; narcissism. It’s clear why Mettaton is so obsessed with being a star has to do with how self-centered he is. While he does care about his family, he was willing to up and leave the snail farm just to achieve his goals, and despite being assisted by Dr. Alphys in this, he appears to regard her with some disdain and only plays his part as a killer robot because he knows that he owes her for his body. He’s not above inconveniencing her, or really anyone else in the Underground, going so far as to install a fountain which spouts water out of its own retention pool and put employees through rigorous and unfair work conditions. Not to mention he wanted to kill Frisk just because he thought that they weren’t strong enough to break the barrier, and that he would be better suited to simply taking their SOUL and freeing all monsterkind…so he could be a star aboveground as well. Talking himself up in this way comes second nature for this robot.

That said, he really is important to the Underground in his own way, because Mettaton’s charisma endears him to the monsters enough for him to be loved and respected. His ease at lading the stage and generating dramatic narratives is particularly helpful to this, and his expressive nature doesn’t hurt. Most especially in his EX form, Mettaton tends to make flashy moves and pushes himself to the limit in the name of entertainment. What’s a few limbs lost to a star like him, when he has a whole crowd to entertain through the camera?!

And that, truthfully, is where Mettaton has the redeeming quality of caring for others. He loves his fans and will maintain his showmanship for their sakes, not just the ratings. Were it only about the ratings, his call-in event would never have made him reconsider going to the surface to become a star, and he even admits that monsters only have one celebrity—him—and that maybe he ought to stay where he is to keep them happy. He also cares about his cousin Napstablook and remembers his voice and mannerisms enough to realize that the ghost was his first call-in. So yeah, Mettaton has his flaws and bad habits, but he isn’t a bad guy. He cares.

Abilities/Skills: Mettaton is a versatile robot with more than one form. His first form is something akin to a TV with arms, and is his most defensively sound body. His second form, Mettaton EX, is less defensive and more resource-heavy, which means he has to charge more often. However, it is also more humanoid with legs, arms, and a face with expressions. This is Mettaton's preferred form, though he hasn't discarded the boxlike form by any means.

He usually uses electricity based magic attacks in his first two forms as well as remote control of smaller versions of his box form which can be used to fire "bullets" or bludgeon an enemy (he won't really summon those). By inferring from Frisk’s fight with him in EX form, he also has some physical fighting skills, and is very flexible. Especially around his arms, because there's no solidified internal chassis holding them to human proportions. That is, they're quite noodle-like.

Mettaton’s charisma is practically a skill. He is the only television star the Underground had, and played it up with gusto, to the point that when he had a call-in to his show for the last episode, all the monsters insisted that they would miss him if he ever went away. With that charisma comes the ability to lead an audience and host events/shows. Even though he's narcissistic and a showboat, Mettaton uses his skills to make sure that anyone he ropes into his impromptu game shows knows that they're important to advancing...whatever is going on!

In addition, as he's a robot (sort of), Mettaton has unnatural strength and calculative capabilities bestowed to him by his body and its workings, things he doesn't often use because all he cares about is being a tv host, and having practical robot skills is quite honestly a bit below him...in his opinion, anyway. If forced to be a brute or a calculator, or a calculative brute, he will do it.

Also due to his robotic nature, Mettaton can be dismembered and still function. To the point of just being a torso and a head. He prefers to be whole of course, but can function better than an organic being in that state, and he doesn't bleed or leak any fluids since he is, as the game clarifies, made of "Metal and Magic." Further, since he is technically a ghost and only possessing this body, he can't really be killed, just purged from his host body. From there, if there is a method in which to kill a ghost, well...he's not aware of it yet!

Mettaton couldn’t say he was familiar with this entirely metal, enclosed location where he now found himself. While he considered himself adaptable and suited for any situation, he was still more than allowed his reservations! A star had distinct rights, after all, and so while he was showed to the “medbay” of this new and unusual place, he took it upon himself to gain some perspective.

“I’m more than happy to cooperate despite the interruption to my very important tour schedule,” he said, all smiles and such since he was currently in his EX form, “but I must insist that I’m told where I am, darlings. Would that be too much?”

If he were more familiar with the atmosphere, he’d probably be that much more demanding, but Mettaton didn’t think he was in a good position to do so, and as the saying went, it was easier to attract flies with honey than vinegar.

Apparently that was indeed the ticket. No one seemed unkind here, just businesslike in the way they informed him of what was going on, and what a story it was! Being brought to a spaceship to work as a commoner? How uncouth! How below him!!

As he was scanned and given his new possessions, the robot frowned, looking annoyed for a minute or two as he thought on the matter. Sure, he had stuff to do back in the human world now that monsters had been liberated from their mountain prison, and sure, this was really annoying to a bot like him who deserved special treatment after his struggles to the top…!!

But he was willing to make the struggle again in a new place. He’d have to go home sometime, right? Positivity! That’s what fueled these batteries!

…That and a quick charge, of course.

“Tell me, gorgeous,” he asked, addressing the nearest personnel, “do you do shows here? I’m an entertainer, and as we all know, entertainment raises morale~.”

The response was rushed just as much as Mettaton was, and he gave a metallic huff as he was ushered on his way. Rude.

((OOC NOTE: I have a question as well! Mettaton is designed with pointy metal shoulder...things in one form, and is a box in the other.
When I brought this up to another player casually, I heard that concessions could possibly made concerning wearing his uniform. Is there any leeway in wearing it or not? Otherwise he'd have to cut holes like whoa, which also would require permission, as I don't want to have him wreck outfits IC and get in trouble.))
